September 1, 2016 PSMS Meeting Minutes
The September 2016 Philadelphia Ship Model Society monthly meeting was called to order at 7:11 PM by President Fred Signor, who led the Pledge of Allegiance. The recording secretary fell ill and was not in attendance. Jim Wheeler, Vice President, introduced Lee A. Ireland, who shared some of Philadelphia's history with Piracy.
Born in Atlantic City, NJ Lee Ireland grew up on the coastal barrier island at Ventnor, NJ. He says, “I’ve spent my life surrounded by water. My father fished so often, we used a separate freezer to keep the Flounder, Sea bass and Bluefish that was meant to last us all winter.
In his first career, Lee was a department head in local government in charge of emergency public safety communications. He went on to travel the nation as a leading fire service educator. He was selected as one of the top - three public safety educators in the country.
Trained at Rutgers University Graduate School of Education and having earning a doctor of philosophy degree in education, he instructed emergency services personnel for the past two decades in a leadership program in every state in the nation. US Steel used Lee’s consultancy at their plants throughout the world. Always writing, he started, “Lee Ireland Publishing” in 2009 and specializes in regional, American History.
For saving an infant who had stopped breathing, Lee was inducted to the Chapel of the Four Chaplains in Philadelphia, PA
His grandfather was a trolley conductor on the famous Seashore Line that served Atlantic City and mainland communities and his great, great, grandmother was a famous nurse at the Battle of Gettysburg during the Civil War.
He lives in Egg harbor Township, NJ with his wife, Regina, and “At least two dogs.”

Show N Tell was not included in the meeting to allow time for the program and tour of the museum exhibit Patriots and Pirates.
The Treasurers report was approved.
Joe Jordan indicated model shack volunteers were needed
Plans for Coast Day are finalized.
A swap table will be set up at the October meeting. Unsold items must be removed at the end of the meeting. All sales are direct between members.
The meeting was adjourned.
